Welcome to the online home of St. Bernard Hospital’s Pediatric Mobile Health Unit. This clinic-on-wheels visits South Side Englewood-area schools, day care centers, and health fairs to provide children with proper school immunizations, physical exams, and valuable referrals to physicians and specialists.
The PMHU is unique because it travels directly to the children, who are briefly excused from class to receive timely care and attention, with the advance approval of their parent or legal guardian.
PHYSICAL EXAMS
The PMHU nurse practitioner administers physical exams, as well as sports-specific exams, for students. Focusing on ear, eye, nose, mouth, throat, and extremities, these exams are crucial to ongoing preventative health in young children. Asthma screening is also included.
SCHOOL VACCINES
Chicago schools require a specific schedule of immunizations for children enrolled in their schools. These shots protect against measles, mumps, rubella, polio, and tetanus, and are critically important for children
INFORMATION AND REFERRALS
Our staff can answer questions or provide useful information to the children we see. If there’s a problem we can’t solve, the PMHU can provide parents with referrals to medical professionals and specialists.
The Pediatric Mobile Health Unit is a 40-foot long mobile clinic complete with private treatment space and hospital-grade materials. The vehicle fully complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act, meets HIPAA regulations for patient privacy, and a duct system that exceeds hospital requirements for air flow. The entire Mobile Unit is leveled by a computerized electro-hydraulic leveling system for optimum patient comfort.
