About COVID-19

COVID-19 is a disease of the upper-respiratory system that is caused by a coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. It can trigger what doctors call a respiratory tract infection. It can lead to severe illness and death.

St. Bernard Hospital offers COVID-19 testing and treatments for those who test positive for the disease. If you would like to be tested for or vaccinated against COVID-19, call 773-962-4644.

Signs and Symptoms

People with COVID-19 have reported wide range of symptoms. Symptoms may include:

  • fever or chills
  • cough; shortness of breath
  • fatigue
  • muscle or body aches
  • headache
  • new loss of taste or smell
  • sore throat
  • congestion
  • runny nose
  • nausea or vomiting; diarrhea.

Symptoms may appear between two and 14 days after exposure to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Although some people can have the COVID-19 without having any symptoms, they can still infect others. On the other hand, severe illness may occur that requires emergency treatment and acute care.
