Chief Financial Officer

“Early in my career, I held finance roles in the for-profit sector. Over time, I transitioned to the non-profit sector, focusing on healthcare organizations. Working with safety-net hospitals in Chicago deepened my passion for serving underserved communities. When the opportunity to join St. Bernard as CFO arose, I saw it as a perfect fit for my experience and was excited to contribute to the hospital's mission."

Rusmir Zec joined St. Bernard in 2025 and now serves the organization as its Chief Financial Officer.  He is responsible for the direction and oversight of all hospital financial strategies; operating and capital budgets; and system of financial reporting, audits and controls that support the Hospital’s overall vision as well as specific objectives.

Prior to joining St. Bernard, Zec served as the chief financial officer for Jackson Park Hospital and vice president of finance for Humboldt Park Health. Working with senior leadership, he developed goals and objectives at the institutions and provided guidance regarding the management of assets and investments.

Rusmir also held senior leadership roles with the American Health Information Management Association and the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, where he provided management oversight and direction of the organization's accounting practices, including accounts payable, general ledger, accounts receivable, contracts and grants, property accounting, budgeting, and payroll.

He received a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance from DepPaul University and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
